Ocracoke writer Pat Garber won first place Thursday (Feb. 25) for feature writing during the N.C. Press Association’s annual awards ceremony in Chapel Hill.
Her story, “Ringside Seat for an Ancient Ritual,” on the peregrine falcon migration on Ocracoke was published in 2014 in the NC Coastal Review, a daily online newspaper.
Garber, who writes mostly about history and the environment, calls Ocracoke her home, and she is a long-time writer for the Ocracoke Observer. To read her most recent contribution, click here.
The NC Press Association is a member-owned and operated nonprofit group established to protect First Amendment freedoms, promote the business interests of North Carolina newspapers and maintain high standards in the industry.
