Bland Simpson will perform an evening of stories and music at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 12, in the Deepwater Theater.

A Kenan Distinguished Professor at UNC Chapel Hill, Simpson is an author and longtime pianist of the Tony Award-winning Red Clay Ramblers string band.

Suggested admission donations of $5 to $10 per person will help support the Ocracoke Working Watermen’s Exhibit located on the docks at the Community Square.

The evening is sponsored by Ocracoke Friends of the Library and Ocracoke Alive.

Simpson has written eight books about eastern Carolina and has collaborated on the musicals “King Mackerel & The Blues Are Running,” “Diamond Studs,” and “Kudzu.”

He regularly covers North Carolina rivers and waterways for UNC TV’s “Our State.”

Bland and Ann Cary Simpson’s Little Rivers & Waterway Tales book (UNC Press) has recently been published. 

A book-signing will be at Books to Be Red at 2 p.m. Sunday, and Bland will visit the Ocracoke School Monday to meet with young writers.
