Cape Hatteras National Seashore today opened night driving on some of the ramps, including Ramp 72, which goes to Southpoint.

Beach driving is allowed only for 4-wheel-drive vehicles and by permit only. Permits can be purchased at the NPS Visitors Center at the south end of Ocracoke Village near the ferry docks or online, click here for more information. 
Night driving is also now permitted on Cape Point from Ramp 44 south on Hatteras.
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore Facebook Page (http://facebook.com/capehatterasns) continues to be updated on a daily basis and now includes night driving information.
