Islander Kim Hansen will defend her title June 15 in the Ninth Annual WOVV Women’s Arm Wrestling Tournament at 7 p.m. in the Ocracoke Community Center.

Hansen, whose moniker is “Wrestles with Bears,” competed for the first time in last year’s contest, which is a fundraiser for Ocracoke’s community radio station at 90.1 FM.  Hansen unseated two-time champion Melessa Owsley, aka “Fat Jesus,” of Rittman, Ohio, against about 20 other competitors in the double-elimination contest.

Competitors are encouraged to wear costumes and create colorful personas that announcer Bill Cole ballyhoos as in a WWF event.

Admission is $10 per person. A pre-party is at the Ocracoke Bar & Grille and an after-party will be at Dajio.
Prizes totaling more than $1,000 in value will be awarded to the top two wrestlers and the top three costumes.
