If you notice a lot of boats entering Silver Lake harbor late afternoon this Saturday, you will be witnessing a real nautical tradition. It will be the 54th Annual Ocracoke Regatta.

Seafarers and their boats will start at 8 a.m. off Indian Island in the Pamlico River near Little Washington and head down the Pamlico River crossing the sound to the finish line at Royal Shoal, just west of Ocracoke Island. The length is approximately 33 nautical miles.

In this competition there will  be both spinnaker and nonspinnaker classes as well as a party class.

This is a fundraising event sponsored by McCotters Marina and the Pamlico Sailing club and proceeds will be used to  support the Little Washington Sailing School that teaches young people how to sail.
