A lasagna dinner from 1 to 4 p.m. today on the Books to be Red lawn will benefit islander Megan Aldridge, who is battling non-small cell adenocarcinoma lung cancer.

Since arriving on Ocracoke  in 1995 as an American Sign Language interpreter, Megan, 48, has helped countless people over the  years.  She has never smoked, has had a focus on a healthy lifestyle and has practiced a commitment to fitness.

The fundraiser will feature live music by Marcy Brenner, Lou Castro, Kate McNally and April Trueblood.

Donations to help Megan and her family  with medical expenses can be sent to the Ocracoke United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 278, Ocracoke, NC 27960. In the memo line on check write “for Megan Aldridge.”

A  GoFundMe fundraising campaign has also been set up here.
