The Albemarle Commission has received funding from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to help homeowners make essential repairs to homes in its region.
The commission, 512 South Church Street, Hertford, works to strengthen local governments, enhance infrastructure, multi-modal transportation planning, train workers, provide services to the elderly, support economic development and facilitate regional collaboration for the betterment of the Albemarle Region of Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington counties.
Minimum requirements to receive house-fixing help are as follows:
- The house must be located in Camden County, Currituck County, Dare County, Hyde County or Pasquotank County.
- An owner of the house must live in the house.
- An occupant of the house must be over 62 years old, disabled or a veteran, or the house must contain lead paint hazards with children under 7 years old.
Hyde County household income must be less than the amounts listed below:

Hyde County $29,900 $34,200 $38,450 $42,700 $46,150
Amounts for larger family sizes are available upon request.
General Information about the grants:
- The program can spend up to $25,000 on one home.
- The funds will be in the form of a forgiven, deferred payment loan.
- The house must meet minimum housing codes when the work is complete.
- Examples of work include roof replacement, new heat and air conditioning systems, insulation, rotten wood repair, and other Essential Repairs.
