Ocracoke native Julia “Nancy” Gaskins, 67, died Thursday Sept. 6, 2018.
She was married to James Bradford Gaskins.
Born Feb. 25, 1951, Nancy was a lifelong resident of Ocracoke Island where she lived her life dedicated to caring for her family and friends. She was a beloved wife and mother, a best friend and devoted daughter, a generous and loving Nana and a fun and cherished sister. All who were blessed to know Nancy knew she was beautiful on the inside and out. Her kind and warm spirit was always up for a good conversation and she never met a stranger.
In addition to her loving husband and soul mate of 47 years, Nancy is survived by her mother Lydia Spencer; daughter Wendy Fuller, wife of Ed Fuller; grandchildren Jamie Gaskins, Taylor, Mason and Landon Fuller; sisters Christine Spencer, Sara Warren, wife of Brian Warren, and Elaine Spencer; brother Jake Spencer; nieces Serina O’Neal, wife of Carl O’Neal, and Tanya Simons, wife of Brad Simons. Also, nephew Warren Wilkes; great-nieces Mackenzie O’Neal and Marina Simons; great-nephews Chandler O’Neal and Rett Simons; and Paula Gillikin, mother of her grandson Jamie.
She was proceeded in death by her son James “Brad” Gaskins, Jr.; her father William “Bill” Spencer; and grandparents Milon and Nina Williams and Washie and Minnie Spencer.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 25, in the Ocracoke United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for fellowship at 278 Lighthouse Rd. following the service.
