Update Oct. 8, 2:30 pm : This storm is now Hurricane Michael. As of 2 p.m. its peak winds were at hurricane strength, sustained at 75 mph and is strengthening. It was centered just 20 miles from the western tip of Cuba, which was getting lashed by heavy rain and strong winds. The storm could become a Category 3 hurricane by the time it reaches the northern Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
Monday, Oct. 8, 12: 28 pm. The National Weather Service is monitoring the progression of Tropical Storm Michael, which could impact the area as early as Thursday.

The National Weather Service also is tracking Hurricane Leslie out in the mid-Atlantic which is currently not a threat to the mainland.
