The National Weather Service out of Morehead City announced Thursday that a long-lasting and significant coastal storm is expected to impact the region Sunday into Monday evening creating hazardous travel conditions.

Inland, it is being described as a winter storm with dangerous ice, and up to 12 inches of snow will be possible in the Charlotte area and perhaps more farther west. The Triangle area could see snow or heavy rain.

Along the coast will see temperatures in the 50s, strong gusty winds and heavy rains possibly resulting in minor flooding and beach erosion.

Possible ferry disruptions could affect travel plans.
