The Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department has canceled this year’s Firemen’s Ball.

“Due to county and state restrictions and the uncertainty of the current situation (with the COVID-19 pandemic), as well as concerns for the health and safety of everyone involved, we came to the incredibly difficult decision to cancel the Firemen’s Ball this Memorial Day weekend,” the organization said on its website.  Please stay tuned as we move forward and try to come up with a backup plan, and as always, we appreciate your continued support in these trying times.”

This popular event which would have been the 15th Annual, includes a silent and live auction and barbecue meal has been a major fundraiser for the OVFD.

Instead of a large gathering, the Ocracoke Rockers is planning a live streaming concert on Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, in the Community Center.

The Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department will post a link to the event as the information becomes available.
