Ocracoke Alive wants people on Ocracoke to add some bling to their COVID-19 face coverings.

The nonprofit arts organization will have mask-crafting stations from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday on the lawn of Books to be Red.

“We were trying to think of creative things that were safe to do,” said David Tweedie, Ocracoke Alive executive director. “Since mask wearing is all the rage, we decided on this community event.”

Meredith Rollman (featured in the graphic below) proposed the idea and is heading up the activities. Participants can hand off their masks to one of the stations or design their own.

Tweedie said the creativity will be in the form of sewing or painting items onto the masks.

Off-island friends may join in as well and submit a photo of your homemade couture mask via info@ocracokealive.org or private messenger on the Ocracoke Alive Facebook page.  Those photos will be added to those of the masks made on Wednesday and put into a slide show on Ocracoke Alive’s website.
