Ocracoke falls to Manteo 59-44

After a tough, competitive first half, the Lady Dolphins suffered injuries that took three starters out of the game, sealing their fate, as the Manteo Redskins went on to a 59-44 victory. The game was played in Columbia which is hosting the second round of the conference playoffs.
With about two minutes into the third quarter, Ingrid Contreras and Sydney Austin collided causing them to leave the game. Later, Karla Perez suffered an elbow injury. Without the starters, Manteo was able to take over and finish with a victory.
Ocracoke led at the first quarter 13-12 and trailed 28-24 at the half. With the team missing three key players, Manteo took a 47-37 lead into the fourth quarter and scored twenty-two more points to seal the victory, 69-54. Team statistics of the game were not available at press time.
The boys team (15-9 Conf. 11-7) will play their second-round playoff game tonight against the Camden County Bruins (17-8 Conf. 14-4) at 7:30 p.m. in Columbia. The teams split their two conference games, Bruins winning the first on their home court, 70-56, and the Dolphins winning at theirs, 49-42.
The game will be broadcast by WOVV, 90.1 FM on the island. School principal Walt Padgett will do the play calling.
