The Albemarle Commission has workforce development grants available for area businesses.
According to Emily Nicholson, the business services representative and economic development coordinator, all five of the commission’s applications submitted to the state in the November round were awarded, totaling nearly $40,000.
The first draft deadline is March 7.
Here’s a rundown of quick facts about the grant:
- Nonprofits and for profits with at least five employees can receive up to $10,000 for training
- Businesses must submit applications through NWDB
- Businesses pick the training that is most suited to their needs
- Businesses can choose which employees are in need of training as long as they have been employed there for at least six months (it doesn’t have to include all employees)
- After awards are announced, businesses have up to a year to train
This grant is one of the few grants still in existence that doesn’t require out-of-pocket expenses, as they can in-kind their contributions through employee salaries.
