The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting possible severe thunderstorms across eastern N.C. today (Tuesday, June 23) as a cold front moves through the region.
According to the NWS office in Newport/Morehead City, thunderstorms are expected to develop between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday as the front tracks across eastern portions of the state.
Forecasters say the strongest storms could produce damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado. Much of Eastern North Carolina, including the Outer Banks and Hatteras Island area, is under a Level 2 “Slight Risk” for severe weather.
“The strongest storms could bring damaging winds and an isolated tornado threat,” the National Weather Service said in a Tuesday morning update.
