N.C. Highway 12 on Ocracoke as of 8 a.m. Friday (April 12) is closed due to oceanside flooding that also caused a crack in the roadway, said an update on X from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

The road will remain closed until at least 5 p.m. today (Friday) due to sand as crews work to get the road reopened.

Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry operations were suspended due to deteriorating weather conditions on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. and remained so Friday due to the NC12 overwash.

Ferry Division Interim Director on Friday morning said as soon as NCDOT gives the all clear, ferries will begin running again.

Additional ocean overwash is possible and is most likely an hour or two before and after high tides at 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Friday.

High tides on Saturday (April 13) will be at 12:30 a.m. and 12:59 p.m. On Monday (April 14), high tides will be at 1:31 a.m. and 12:59 p.m.

Wind gusts of 25-35 mph are expected most of Friday, but winds will start to diminish by Saturday morning.

A partial outage of some communication services in Hatteras Village and Ocracoke on Thursday was not related to the weather, but rather a fiber optic cable that was damaged around 10 a.m. by construction crews in Frisco, according to an update from SamWalkerOBXNews.com.

The issue has been repaired, and all internet and cell phone service was restored around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
