FERRY INFORMATION to Ocracoke–updated Sept. 17

Updated Sept. 17, 2021:

NOTE  Due to staffing shortages, some runs on the Hatteras-Ocracoke routes are being canceled daily. Please check Twitter each day.

The following is the schedule from Sept. 14 to Nov. 1:

  • Hatteras: 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 8:30a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m., 11 p.m. and midnight.
  • Ocracoke: 4:30 a.m., 6:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 9 p.m., 9:30 p.m., 10:30 p.m., and midnight.

Ferry travelers are encouraged to call the Hatteras Terminal at 252-996-6000 before arriving to check on schedules and estimated wait times.

Pamlico Sound routes to Sept. 14 to Dec. 31
Cedar Island-Ocracoke
From Cedar Island: 7:30 a.m., 10:30 and 4 p.m.
From Ocracoke: 7:30 a.m., 1 and 4:30 p.m.

Swan Quarter-Ocracoke
From Swan Quarter: 10 a.m., 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.
From Ocracoke: 10 a.m., 1:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Passengers can reserve space on Pamlico Sound departures online at www.ncferry.org, or by calling 1-800-BY FERRY.

Runs on all ferry routes can be delayed or canceled at any time and for many reasons.  The ferry captains makes their own decisions about whether or not it is safe to run, but generally, when wind speeds reach about 35 mph, ferry runs will be suspended until the winds die down. 

Motorists are urged to follow the NC Ferry routes on Twitter for daily updates on ALL of the ferry routes. Route-specific Twitter feeds are available:

Two routes – Hatteras-Ocracoke and Ocracoke-Cedar Island – are officially part of the Outer Banks National Scenic Byway.
