Hyde County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that the death of Ocracoke islander Daniel Patrick Isbrecht, 40, of Cutting Sage Road on Jan. 19, is under investigation.
Deputies responding to the possible DOA call at 1:30 a.m., along with EMS, were unable to tell the apparent cause of death, said Captain Joseph Smith in a press release.
“Due to this, the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office along with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are treating and investigating this case as a criminal matter pending an autopsy by the state medical examiner in Greenville,” Smith said.
Police were on the scene from the time they responded after the initial call until 8:30 p.m.
