Books to Be Red wants everyone to get lit on Sunday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Literature, that is.

Owner Leslie Lanier is hosting a book swap: Participants should bring a book or two to swap with others while sipping on wine and snacks.

“It’s a get-together before the season really gets going,” Lanier said about the afternoon. “I’ve never done it before.”

Obviously, she said, her business is selling books, but this is an experiment.

“There are some very good books on this island,” she said, and she’s hoping participants will bring books they’ve enjoyed to share with others.

In addition to books by local authors, books about the Outer Banks, current fiction and nonfiction, Books to Be Red, along School Road, also has a variety of gift items (pottery, yarn, art supplies, whimsy and more),  as well as an extensive children’s books and toys section.
