Islanders and visitors will have to take a vacation from visiting the Ocracoke post office over the Labor Day holiday weekend from Sunday (Sept. 6) at 3 p.m. until 9 a.m. Tuesday, (Sept. 8) so that the floor can be refurbished.
The doors will be locked while the floor is stripped, washed and waxed, said Melissa Sharber, postal worker.
“This means people won’t be able to check their mail boxes, or drop letters, or mail prepaid packages,” she said.
The reason for closing entirely is because the floor refinishing cannot be done all at once, she said. Each stage has to be done back-to-back.
“Since Monday is a holiday, it’s a good time to do this,” she said.
We will only be closed for a day and a half (30 hours). And it should read mail prepaid packages not pick up packages. We are notifying the community so arrangements can be made to deal with any problems this might present.
