State Senate candidate (District 1, which includes Ocracoke) Brownie Futrell will be the featured speaker for the Hyde County Chamber spring luncheon, open to all at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, in the Ocracoke Community Center.
Futrell is a life-long resident of Washington, Beaufort County, and former owner and publisher of the Washington Daily News where he worked for 32 years and which he sold in 2010. He has had a second home in Oyster Creek for the past 25 years.
In 1990, the Daily News won the Pulitzer Prize for Meritorious Public Service based on a series of articles that unveiled a contamination of the city’s water supply.
