Virginia Howard Austin, 87, of Ocracoke, died Wednesday, May 18, in her home.

Born on Ocracoke Feb. 26, 1929, Virginia was the daughter of the late Napoleon Howard and Sabra Tolson Howard. Virginia was a homemaker and was a member of Ocracoke United Methodist Church and the Women’s Society.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Clyde Sherrill Austin; two daughters, Tammy Austin Tolson and Trudy Austin; and a grandson, Casey Tolson, all of Ocracoke.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Claude Gaskill, Jesse Gaskill and Charles Howard.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, in Ocracoke United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Bryant officiating. Private burial will take place at the Howard-Williams cemetery.
