The Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum at 49 Water Plant Rd.

The Ocracoke Preservation Society (OPS) opens its museum and gift shop today. The hours will be weekday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The

“The Artists of Ocracoke” is on display along with other exhibits that capture the remarkable history of Ocracoke and Portsmouth Islands.

The museum is free (donations to support OPS are gladly accepted).

The tours are self-guided and the gift shop features a selection of local items– from fig preserves to hand-carved birds and many other items.

OPS members receive a 10 percent discount on all gift shop purchases.

Membership funds directly benefit OPS and provide funding for the preservation of structures, artifacts and culture of Ocracoke Island.
