A wintry evening is a wonderful time to attend the Ocracoke Preservation Society’s annual art auction fundraiser, “2018 Ocracoke Through Your Eyes” this Saturday (Jan. 27) from 5 to 7 p.m.  in the David Williams museum, 49 Water Plant Rd.

Light snacks and beverages will be available. The gift shop will be open and raffle tickets for the 2018 quilt handcrafted by the Ocracoke Needle and Thread Club will be available as well as membership information.

Once again, the auction will feature original small works: Almost all pieces are six- by eight-inch canvases created by islanders and artist friends of Ocracoke of all ages, including several works by children. These works include paintings, photography and mixed media.

“As of this afternoon, we are up to 77 works,”  Andrea Powers, the OPS administrator, said Tuesday.  She expects more to be forthcoming.

For those not able to attend in person, online bidding is available again this year. Bids will be accepted only via email to admin@ocracokepreservation.org until midnight Friday, Jan. 26.

Bidding starts at $10 and raises should be made in no smaller than $5 increments. Bidders should include the canvas number, name, artist, bid amount and their contact information.  The society will charge a shipping fee of $5.

Live bidding will start at 5 p.m. at the museum on Saturday, at which time the highest online bid will become the starting bid for the live event.

Any winning canvases from online bids will be sent to the winner with a $5 shipping charge added.

Check the album often to see new pieces and new bids.
