Islander Kim Hansen will defend her title June 14 in the 10th Annual WOVV Women’s Arm Wrestling Tournament at 7 p.m. in a new location, the newly built Berkley Barn behind the Berkley Center.

Hansen for the last two years has been the champion of this popular contest, which is a fundraiser for WOVV 90.1 FM, Ocracoke’s community radio station.

In last year’s bout against about 20 other competitors in the double-elimination contest, Hansen, whose moniker is “Wrestles with Bears,” again bested two-time champion Melessa Owsley, aka “Fat Jesus,” (a character she created from the movie “The Hangover”) of Rittman, Ohio.

Competitors are encouraged to wear costumes and create colorful personas in this WWF-like event. Prizes totaling more than $1,000 in value will be awarded to the top two wrestlers and the for best costumes.

Contestants can still register onsite up to an hour before the event. This year, the event is limited to 32 contestants. Admission is $10 per person. A post-party will be at Dajio.

Sign up forms  are now  available at the Variety Store. For more information, contact the station at info@wovv.org, or 252 928-9688.
