Hundreds of runners will converge on Ocracoke next weekend for the annual spring running event on Ocracoke, The Scallawag 5/10k Foot Race and The Blackbeard Half Marathon.

The 5K/10K will be run at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 27, and the half-marathon will start at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 28.

All race information is posted on the website runocracoke.com

Runners will gather at the starting line both days on Irvin Garrish Highway in front of our host sponsor, Gaffer’s Restaurant.

Gaffer’s will host the after-parties for the runners both days, featuring beer from 1718 Brewing Ocracoke, food provided by Gaffer’s and music from DJ Tommy Hutcherson.  All are invited to join in the fun that will benefit island nonprofits WOVV 90.1 FM, The Ocracoke School Athletic Boosters and The Ocracoke Community Park.

This event is the result of a huge cooperative effort involving the financial support of multiple sponsors on and off island, the National Park Service, the Hyde County Sheriff’s Department and numerous generous volunteers before, during and after the race weekend.

Since the race’s beginning, WOVV has dispersed more than $200,000 to the Ocracoke School Athletic Boosters, Community Park, Ocracoke Child Care and WOVV to support the various activities of these valuable community non-profits and their work.

Race results will be posted on runtheeast.com.
