The Friends of Portsmouth Island will hold its spring meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, in Ocracoke School, 120 Schoolhouse Rd. The meeting is open to the public.
Jeff West, superintendent of Cape Lookout National Seashore, will discuss the current state of the village, future plans and conduct an informal Q&A session.
Elections for the next two-year term will be held for members to vote, and plans for Homecoming 2020 will be discussed. Portsmouth T-shirts and books will be available for purchase, and door prizes will be awarded at the end of the meeting.
After the meeting, he will lead a tour through the village for those who wish to go. Reservations are not necessary for this trip provided by Portsmouth Island Boat Tours, which costs $20 per person, round trip.
