Louelle Spencer Midgette

Louelle Spencer Midgett, 86, of Rodanthe died July 8 in the Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Born Nov. 22, 1933, on Ocracoke, she was a daughter of the late Herman B. and Flora Burrus Spencer.

Raised on Ocracoke and a graduate of Ocracoke School, she was the wife of the late William Midgette and sister of the late Gaynelle Tillett.

As a military spouse, her selfless dedication to her loved ones supported the mission of our Armed Forces to defend our nation and preserve our liberty. She spent 20 plus years supporting loved ones who answered our country’s call to duty, raised children far from extended family and invested in her communities through volunteer service.

She was a founding member and staunch advocate of the Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department.

Additionally, she spread love throughout the Outer Banks with countless donations of baby quilts to expecting mothers.

Louelle is survived by her six children: Brent Midgett (Elaine), Bertha Midgett, Bruce Midgett (Jade), Bonnie Gray (Tilman), Rebecca Thomas (Jeff) and Wilhelmina Grubbs (Larry).

She is also survived by a nephew Rickey Tillett, 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 18, in the Fair Haven United Methodist Church in Rodanthe.
