Ocracoke lost a native son, Isaac “Ikey” Delano O’Neal Jr. on May 17, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Born in Sea Level, Carteret County, he was a son of late Louise Tolleson O’Neal and Isaac D. “Ikey D” O’Neal Sr. Ikey Jr. worked for the Dare County Sanitation Department and was a commercial fisherman.

He is survived by daughter Lucy Louise O’Neal of Ocracoke, also by his uncle Lewis Tolleson III of Florida, and two aunts, Judy Garrish and Linda Gaskill both of Ocracoke. He was preceded in death by his aunt Maxine Mason also of Ocracoke.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ocracoke Life Saving Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, with Pastor Ivey Belch officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Life Saving Church, 459 Light House Rd., P.O. Box 68, Ocracoke, NC 27960.

All other donations may be made to the Ocracoke Interfaith Relief & Recovery Team “OIRRT” at P.O. Box 415, Ocracoke, NC 27960 which helped Ikey repair his home after the damage caused by Hurricane Dorian in 2019.
