Sunday, June 19 Juneteenth
Juneteenth is a holiday that recognizes the end of slavery. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed on Jan. 1, 1863, it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that the last remaining enslaved people in Galveston Bay, Texas, learned of their freedom.

NPS weekly programs:

Ocracoke Lighthouse base open daily: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Twenty-minute talks are at 11 a.m. Monday to Thursday.

Unless otherwise stated, the programs below are outside the Ocracoke Discovery Center at Pilot Town Road by the south end ferry docks.
