Both the Hatteras and Pamlico Sound ferries have suspended operations today, Easter Sunday, due to high winds.

The Hatteras Ferry Operations issued the statement at 7 a.m.

“We will continue to monitor this weather pattern and reopen when we can safely do so,” the statement said. For info call: 252-996-6000.

The Pamlico Sound ferry service– Ocracoke/Swan Quarter/Cedar Island–have been suspended for Sunday.

Dare County Sheriff’s Office reported at 7 a.m. that at this time NC 12 on Hatteras Island is open and deputies are reporting that NC 12 is easily passable by cars. The wind is blowing sand and there is rain, but no overwash.

Rain is expected to end this morning, but high winds will persist throughout the day, gradually diminishing through tonight, according to information from the National Weather Service. Monday will continue to be windy. Temperatures will be cool, in the upper 50s for today and tomorrow.
