Michael D. Seibert, 64, of Ocracoke, died unexpectedly on April 8.
He was the husband of Cindy Maruzo Seibert.
Born Aug. 30, 1958, in Steuben, New York, he was a son of the late Carol Allen and Deroy Seibert.
He was an equipment operator for the National Park Service.
Michael retired from the Navy in 1998 after serving 18 years as a hull maintenance technician. He served on the USS Forrestal, USS McKee, USS Bronstein, USS Fulton and USS Shenandoah, and had various shore duty assignments.
He also worked as a civil servant for NAVAC in Groton, Conn.
He graduated in 1978 from Corning Painted Post East High School in Corning, NY.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by step-daughters, Nicole “Nicki” Henry (Chad) of Flower Mound, Texas, and Amanda Goldstein (Eric) of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Michael, Amelia, and Clara Henry of Flower Mound, Texas, Peyton, John, Gavin, and Shelby Richardson, and Jaylynn and Josie Goldstein of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and sisters, Bonnie Rearick (Garry) of Lewistown, Pennsylvania, Jane Chase (Rick) of Corning, New York, and Sherri Swarthout (Gordon) of Beaverdam, New York; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, April 24 in the R.W. Baker Downtown Chapel, Suffolk, Virginia, with visitation one hour prior.
Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
