The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting possible severe storms for Tuesday afternoon.
While a few showers and storms are possible through the early morning hours, it is the severe potential with afternoon and evening storms that the NWS is most concerned with, according to a press release.
Widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of a cold front sagging south into the area through the afternoon/evening.
The strongest storms will bring the potential for strong/damaging wind gusts, with some large hail possible as well.
The overall threat is similar across eastern North Carolina, with storms first developing across the Albemarle Sound region and inner Coastal Plain, then spreading south and eastward through the afternoon and evening.
The primary message the NWS is pushing at this point is for people to remain weather aware and have multiple ways to receive a warning.
