The National Weather Service has issued a warning that severe thunderstorms coupled with high winds will impact eastern North Carolina today into Tuesday.

Damaging winds up to 70 mph are the main risk with these storms. Additional threats west of Belhaven in Beaufort County could include large hail up to golf ball size, a tornado or two, and a few instances of flash flooding

SSW Winds will increase this afternoon today (June 26) into the 20- to 30-mph range with a high temperature of 83 degrees.

The National Weather Service said severe weather at night can be especially dangerous.
