The National Weather Service out of Morehead City is forecasting a period of gale force southwesterly winds for the Outer Banks, from Duck to Frisco, beginning Monday and continuing through Tuesday.
This will result in a threat for minor to moderate sound-side flooding along the Outer Banks Monday night and Tuesday, possibly impeding travel along N.C. 12 and ferry service.
Inundation of two to three feet, with locally higher amounts up to four feet, is possible along the Outer Banks.
Minor to locally moderate sound-side flooding will also be possible along areas adjacent to the northwestern Pamlico, Croatan, Roanoke, and eastern Albemarle Sounds with inundation there forecast to be one to three feet.
Wind gusts of 45 to 50 mph are also expected with this system near Ocracoke, with widespread 35 to 40 mph across the rest of the area.
In addition, widespread two to three inches of rainfall is expected and is not expected to result in flash flooding although minor, nuisance flooding of low-lying areas may be possible.
