Harry Franklin O’Neal, Jr., 62, passed away on January 10, 2025, at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

Born on January 4, 1963, in Groton, Connecticut, he was a son of the late Harry Franklin O’Neal, Sr. and Carol Ann Wentzell O’Neal, formerly of Ocracoke.

Harry dedicated many years of his professional life working with the State of North Carolina before retiring from Moran Towing Corporation. His commitment to his work and his colleagues was well respected by all who knew him.

Harry leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Patricia O’Neal, formerly of Ocracoke; his stepson, Morris “Duke” Gray; his grandson, Colby Gray (Emily); and his treasured great-grandchildren, Aria Blehm, Maverick, Charleigh, and Lainey Gray.

He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette Willis (Paul); his nephews, Travis Willis and Kurtis Scott Lutz, III; and his sister-in-law, Carol Paul.

Harry will be fondly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends Jon, Caroline, Rylee and Alyssa.

As we reflect on the life of Harry Franklin O’Neal, Jr., we remember a man of integrity and warmth, whose legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A service will be held in Buxton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to a church of one’s choice.
