RALEIGH – The N.C. Board of Transportation today approved new tolling rates for four previously untolled routes in the N.C. Ferry System. Tolling is required to begin on all ferry routes Jan. 1, 2027, under legislation passed by the N.C. General Assembly in July.

The new one-way single-space vehicle tolls will be:

  • Hatteras-Ocracoke: $10
  • Currituck-Knotts Island: $7
  • Bayview-Aurora: $7
  • Cherry Branch-Minnesott Beach: $7

The board approved the toll rates recommended in October by the N.C. Ferry Division. Starting Jan. 1, NCDOT plans to make single ferry tickets for these four routes available for purchase in person at the terminal passengers are using.

Current one-way, single-space tolls at Southport-Fort Fisher ($7), Cedar Island-Ocracoke ($15) and Swan Quarter-Ocracoke ($15) remain unchanged.

Commuter passes are now available for permanent residents of 20 coastal counties in North Carolina, as well as for active-duty members of the military. The passes are valid for one vehicle for one year on all N.C. vehicle ferry routes.

The commuter passes are $150 and can currently be purchased online on the N.C. Ferry website, or in-person at the Cedar Island, Hatteras, Ocracoke, Southport and Swan Quarter ferry terminals. Visit the NCDOT website for locations of those ferry terminals.

Existing commuter passes that have been used on a currently tolled route will retain their current expiration dates. New commuter passes purchased prior to Jan. 1, 2027, that have not been used before that date, will be valid through Dec. 31, 2027. Passes purchased on or after Jan. 1, 2027, will be valid for one year from the date of purchase.
