Tideland EMC has issued the following message:
“This morning (April 25) Hatteras and Ocracoke islands are on generator power while transmission work is done on Hatteras Island. We have just been notified by Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative that one of the diesel engines has gone down and electric loads are reaching maximum capacity.
Island residents and businesses need to immediately conserve energy to avoid maxing out generator capacity which would lead to an outage.”
According to Tideland’s communications manager, Heidi Smith, conserving energy includes turning off unneeded lights, not running large appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and dryers,
It would also include turning down the heat or shutting down air conditioning in warmer weather.
They expect to have the problem resolved by late afternoon or early evening.
