The National Park Service invites all to a special celebration of Founder’s Day Aug. 25 at the Ocracoke Day Use Area (Lifeguard Beach).

Rangers will be on duty to talk about the Night Sky and the Dark Sky Initiative being studied for Cape Hatteras.

Special Guest Rob Temple will regale all with tales of the sand pirates.Night Sky Poster force be with you

The program will be approximately two and half hours.  Visitors are encouraged to bring a beach chair or blanket to sit.

The approximate schedule will be:

7 to 7:30 p.m.: Welcome Bonfire  Visitors are encouraged to bring their own S’more ingredients if they desire.

7:30 to 7:45 p.m. History of the Park Service leading up to Founder’s Day Aug. 25.  (Sunset approx 7:39 p.m.)

7:45 to 8 p.m. The Cape Hatteras Dark Sky Initiative

8 to 8:30 p.m. tales of the pea, Pirate, and the night  (Twilight 8:07 p.m.)

8:30 to 9 p.m. Night sky and star program (nautical twilight 8:38 p.m.)

9 p.m. until?  Photography at night, capturing the Milky Way, star trails, night photography
