Down Creek Gallery’s summer season of Expose Yourself to Art series continues Wednesday (Sept. 7) with new works by artist Roy Revels and a reception from 5 to 8 p.m.
The artist said his upcoming show will be a bit on the risqué side as he will showcase new paintings, including nudes and abstract subject matter.
Revels does not like to “paint a pretty picture.”
“I do, however, paint a story where the viewer is forced into painting their own ending,” he said.
He aims to engage his viewers to use their own ideals and become part of the experience, but does not like to preview photos of new work..
A self-taught abstract artist, Revels uses various mixed media to convey whatever is in his head at the time.
“My work is more conceptual than anything else, and means to be thought provoking,” he said. “It gives individuals the opportunity to draw their own opinions about the work, rather than feed certain ideals and subject matter pertaining to the sculptures and paintings.”
The reception, open to all, will include house music, hors d’oeuvres and adult beverages provided by Zillie’s Island Pantry.
