Commissioner-elect for Ocracoke Tom Pahl will be sworn in at tonight’s Hyde County Commissioner’s meeting, 6 p.m.

The meeting will take place at the multi-purpose room in Swan Quarter and those on Ocracoke can watch the meeting via video-conferencing in the Ocracoke School commons room.

Also being sworn in for another term will be Earl Pugh Jr. representing Lake Landing Township and Benjamin Simmons III of Fairfield Township. Pugh beat his Democratic challenger Thomas Midgette in the November election, 1,208 to 831.  Simmons was unopposed. Brandy Pugh, Clerk of the Courts, will administer the oaths of office.

Pahl was unopposed on the November ballot and beat incumbent John Fletcher in the Democratic primary last March.

While the commissioners represent certain townships, the races are county-wide.

The swearing in of the three commissioners will be held at an organizational meeting preceding the regular meeting where the commissioners will elect a chairman, (Pugh is the current chairman), vice-chair, appointment of the county attorney, board clerk and deputy clerks.

Also on the first meeting agenda is a commendation for outgoing Ocracoke Commissioner John S. Fletcher II.
