Skipjack Wilma Lee: “Buoy Bingo–Nautical Charts and Navigation,” students will learn the fundamentals of navigation. Students will make their own compasses and investigate the variations in magnetic north as well as play a game that will allow them to locate different maritime and historical features in and around Ocracoke Inlet, 10 a.m.

Ocracoke Summer Ranger programs with the NPS:
Summer programs by the National Park Service have started and continue through Sept. 4. Meet at the Visitor Center amphitheater unless other location noted. For information and to sign up, call 252-475-9701. Attendees should bring bug spray and sunscreen.

Mondays:
8:30 a.m. Crabbing with a Ranger – Learn about crabs & how to catch them. Pre-register in-person at the Ocracoke Visitor Center starting the Saturday before the program. (90 minutes)
1 p.m. Pirates! – Learn about Blackbeard and others. Meet at the Ocracoke Visitor Center Amphitheater. (30 minutes)
2:30 p.m. Barrier Island Nature – Join us for a talk about the wild side of the park. Meet at the Ocracoke Visitor Center Amphitheater. (30 minutes)
8:45 p.m. Ocracoke After Dark – Explore the dark skies of Ocracoke. Meet at campground beach parking lot. Bring bug spray. (1 hour)
Tuesdays:
8:30 a.m. Cast Netting – Cast netting is one of the oldest forms of fishing. Pre-register in-person at the Ocracoke Visitor Center starting the Saturday prior to the program. (90 minutes)
2:30 p.m. Pirates! – Learn about Blackbeard and others. Meet at the Ocracoke Visitor Center Amphitheater. (30 minutes)
Wednesdays:

Thursdays:
10a.m. Banker Ponies – The Banker Ponies are definitely an Ocracoke must-see! Bring bug spray! Not recommended for those allergic to horses. Meet at the Ocracoke Pony Pens. (20-30 minutes)
2:30 p.m. Barrier Island Nature – Join us for a talk about the wild side of the park. Meet at the Ocracoke Visitor Center Amphitheater. (30 minutes)
Fridays:
8:30 a.m. Outer Banks Bird Walk – Meet winged residents and those traveling the Atlantic Flyway. Bring bug spray. Meet at the ferry parking lot at the north end of the island. (90 minutes)
