Gaffer’s will hold its annual concert tonight (Saturday, Oct. 14) at 8 with The Speculations to benefit Ocracoke’s Community Park.

Based in Greenville, the band on its website bills itself as a “medically-associated rock and roll band.”

Composed of doctors and lawyers, the dance band chiefly plays for charitable events, said Ashley Harrell, co-owner of Gaffer’s.

“We are interested in playing music to support worthwhile causes,” the band’s website says. “We call it rock ‘n roll with a conscience.”

Prompted by front man Paul Shackleford, who has a home in Jackson Circle, this is the fourth year that Gaffer’s is holding the fundraiser with the five-piece band, Harrell said.

“The female lead singer is awesome,” Harrell said.

Admission will be a donation at the door and a percentage of the restaurant’s sales all day will go toward the fundraiser along with sales of raffle tickets for various items.

Past years have raised $1,500 to $2,200 to go toward the ball field operated by the Ocracoke Youth Center at the end of Maurice Ballance Road.
