Hyde County residents interested in running for 2018 elected positions will need to file with the Hyde County Elections Office starting Monday, Feb. 12.
According to Viola Williams, Hyde County Board of Elections director, candidate filings will be accepted for the first set of positions listed below starting at noon on Monday, Feb. 12. Filing ends at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Unaffiliated candidates running by petition must turn their petitions into the elections office by noon on the day of the primary, Tuesday, May 8.
Candidates can either file in the Hyde County elections office in the Public Safety Building,1223 Main Street, Swan Quarter, or they can mail their documents with their filing fees to P.O. Box 152, Swan Quarter, NC 27885. If mailed, documents have to be received in the elections office by Feb. 28. Elections office hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The following positions are up for election:
Clerk of Superior Court
Register of Deeds
Sheriff
County Commissioner – Currituck Township
County Commissioner – Swan Quarter Township
Board of Education – Ocracoke Seat
Board of Education – At Large Seats (two seats)
Engelhard Sanitary District Supervisor (three seats)
Ocracoke Sanitary District Supervisor (three seats)
Swan Quarter Sanitary District Supervisor (three seats)
The filing window for the following positions is from noon Monday, June 11, to noon Friday, July 6:
Soil & Water Conservation Supervisor (two seats)
To file, candidates will need to submit a Notice of Candidacy as well as the Felony Disclosure Form (if needed) and their filing fee.
