Helios’ Hideaway, Ocracoke’s new Mediterranean cuisine cafe, located in Spencer’s Market at School Road and Irvin Garrish Highway, is having its “soft opening” this weekend from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. today (Friday, May 25) to Sunday.

Lynn Murphree and her partner, Ken Marino, who does the “magic in the kitchen,” will be serving what will normally be their sides: hummus with pita, baba ghanouj, tzatziki (cucumber salad), tomato olive salad, chicken salad, chickpea salad, orzo salad and fresh fruit.

Murphree said there is a possibility for air-fried (no oil) falafel as well.

The Hideway will be closed Monday (Memorial Day), and will reopen Tuesday with more menu items, such as three types of salad, platters with a protein (either chicken or shrimp) and four different types of pita sandwiches.

Helios’ Hideaway joins Thai Moon, two world cafes, in Spencer’s Market.
