Both island churches celebrate anniversaries this year and the Ocracoke United Methodist Church will be the first one to celebrate its 75th anniversary on Sunday (July 8).

Worship begins at 11 a.m. with Julie Howard playing music from the original church dedication service in 1943.

The church invites all to a community potluck picnic party in the churchyard on School Road at 12:30. Barbecued chicken and beverages provided and dishes can be dropped off in the church recreation hall beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The picnic will include music by the youth choir and choir director Desiree Ricker.

Rain location is in the Community Center.
