State Rep. John Torbett (R-Gaston) will bring his House Select Committee on Strategic Transportation Planning and Long Term Funding Solutions to Ocracoke Aug. 27.
After visiting N.C. Ferry Division operations in Mann’s Harbor and the Bonner Bridge, both in Dare County, in the morning, committee members will convene for lunch in the NCCAT building and then hold a meeting, said Viddia Torbett, John’s wife and legislative assistant.
Though the agenda is being completed, the Ocracoke Waterways Commission will give a short presentation. The meeting is open to the public,
After that, the group will have free time on the island before departure.
This committee last visited the area in January 2016 when it spent three days on mainland Hyde and visited the Swan Quarter ferry dock where almost two dozen islanders talked to them about the importance of ferry service.
