Will including glass into the co-mingle recycling bin render the co-mingle recycling unusable? Islanders can ask Hyde County Manager Kris Noble this question on Wednesday afternoon during a public meeting on improving the trash site. Photo: C. Leinbach

Hyde County Manager Kris Noble will hold a public meeting Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 24, to discuss improvements to the Ocracoke Convenience Site.

Known locally as the dump, Noble will hold a walk-through and onsite discussion at the site at 3:30. After that, the meeting will move at 4:30 to the Community Center to further discuss the trash situation until 6 p.m.

“As the busy summer season comes to a close, I believe it is time to make the necessary improvements and changes needed to make next summer season the best it can be,” Noble said in a press release.  “Please come prepared to discuss unmet needs, suggestions for improvements, and any recommendations with examples of systems that you have seen work or new ideas you may have. Photos, drawings and examples will be invaluable moving forward.”

Those who can’t attend but have suggestions, ideas or comments can email Noble at knoble@hydecountync.gov.

“I will be sure your input is considered moving forward,” she said.

The dump was renamed “the Ocracoke Convenience Site” several years ago, as were all county trash dumps, when the system changed from a pick-up service to the current system.
