Due to forecasted rain Saturday, the Ocracoke Holiday Lights Parade of Boats has been rescheduled for Sunday night from 5:30 to 6:30. All are encouraged to decorate their water vessels of whatever kind and sail around Silver Lake Harbor.
Spectators can watch from the Community Store docks and enjoy complimentary refreshments at the Ocracoke Working Watermen’s Exhibit starting at 5 p.m.
Whatever your vessel–kayak, raft, boat, jet ski–all are welcome. Simply decorate your boat with lights and join in this event sponsored by the Ocracoke Civic and Business Association (OCBA).
The first year, in 2016, six boats participated, and about 50 people joined in the fun at the Watermen’s Exhibit. In 2017, eight boats paraded around the harbor, while over 150 people watched from the Community Square docks. Others gathered all around the harbor to see the small but festive display of holiday cheer.
“It’s just a simple and fun way to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend, and start the Christmas season,” said Teresa O’Neal, a former OCBA board member, who spearheaded the event’s comeback.
