
Editor’s note: January and February are relatively quiet on Ocracoke Island with community meetings, Ocracoke School basketball games and some live music weekends at open restaurants. Below are events for today to Jan. 26. Update Jan. 8, 2019: The Ferry Division meeting scheduled for Monday, Jan. 21, will be rescheduled since that is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Ocracoke Waterways Commission was rescheduled to Monday, Jan. 28.
TODAY: Monday, Jan. 7
Ocracoke Dolphins basketball, Middle School teams take on the Mattamusekeet Lakers, Girls tip-off at 4 pm, boys follow. Games will be broadcast on WOVV, Ocracoke’s community radio station, 90.1 FM on the island and online atwovv.rocks.
Hyde County Commissioners meeting, Community Center, 6 pm. A public hearing on the island tram grant from NCDOT precedes the regular meeting. Hyde County Public Information Officer Donnie Shumate said the hearing is a legal requirement for Hyde County’s share of $75,000 toward the total project, even though the grant has already been approved.
